Jurisprudence of Crime and Punishment and Technology

Technology is changing perspectives on crime, punishment and criminal procedure. Changes are evident in the quality and quantity of the information available for both sides of any legal issue, the nature of that information, who the experts are, sometimes even what punishment looks like. Every area of the criminal justice system is impacted by technology from policing and surveillance, to identification and capture to detention and punishment and even the question of what is criminal. Finally, implications for the post-release experience. A closer look at these issues and a journey through the history and practices and current challenges are issues worthy of investigation by all of our students but especially our growing population of crimnal justice students.
