The seminar has allowed me to consider developing a new theme for a LIB200 seminar.  Some of the issues we discussed related to biases and inequities gave me an idea that I might use to encourage students to investigate some of the systems in our society that support or even promote these inequities and to challenge their own assumptions about meritocracy and the ease in accessing the american dream.

I’m excited about the idea of this new LIB200 seminar (if it runs) accessing some of the training and skills from other courses:  criminal justice, communications courses, critical thinking by having students think about what is criminal and why and looking at some of the difficult cases that our courts have entertained:  Terry Schiavo, Scottsboro Trial, Charles Stuart, etc.
