In preparation to my return (from a parallel world or two) to LIB200, I plan to explore how the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics regarding multiple parallel worlds relates to several stories of Borges, Cortazar, and other writers of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries.  Time travel, once the province of science fiction, is now considered a technical possibility.  For unified theory physicists such as Michio Kaku, Brian Greene and others (as well as theorists of consciousness such as Chalmers) the complexity of the universe reflects the complexity of mind, and all paradigms of “reality” are subjective constructions a specific group or age agrees upon.  I plan to explore how these theories, as reflected in film and literature analyzed in the course, challenge our beliefs about humans, society, and what we consider “real.”  Más o menos…
